A DEVS–based End-to-end Methodology for Hybrid Control of Embedded Networking Systems

چکیده
We present a formal Modeling and Simulation (M&S) methodology for hybrid control of networking systems. The method is used for analysis, design and implementation of Quality of Service (QoS) control systems in Network Processor (NP)-based applications. We apply continuous Control Systems Theory to enforce Admission Control strategies into discrete–event network traffic. This represents a hybrid system modeling problem, that has to be treated formally to guarantee the applicability of the continuous control theoretical results into discrete– event systems. We show that using DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification), in combination with Quantized State Systems (QSS) numerical methods for the approximation of continuous systems, offers numerous advantages: these frameworks provide the means to accurately analyze and design hybrid models for Admission Control and they can be seamlessly integrated into a unified formal framework. It also enables the transition between the DEVS–based simulation and the deployment of the obtained hybrid models into the target networking platform.

On the verification of hybrid DEVS models
Hybrid systems (those where continuous and discrete phenomena interact) can be found in many natural and artificial systems. For example, real-time embedded systems usually include discrete-event controllers interacting with a continuous plant. Verifying such real-time systems for correctness is of utmost importance, as results of incorrect behavior could be catastrophic. Although Modeling and ...
متن کاملA Novel Hybrid Droop-Isochronous Control Strategy for Microgrid Management
The droop control strategy is the most common approach for microgrids control but its application is limited due to frequency deviation following a load change. Complementary control strategy has then been proposed to solve the problem using a communication network. However, under this strategy, regular loads profile produces a continuous change of output power of all distributed generators (DG...
متن کاملI-DEVS: imprecise real-time and embedded DEVS modeling
The problem of over-running in hard real-time systems poses critical risks to the hardware under control. The imprecise computation technique offers an effective way of resource utilization in these cases. We introduce Imprecise-DEVS (IDEVS), a model-driven approach to develop real-time and embedded applications based on the DEVS (Discrete Event Systems Specification) formalism. This approach c...

We introduce advanced techniques to develop embedded real-time controllers for networking applications using a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) based methodology. Our solution relies on the DEVS formalism and the Embedded CD++ (ECD++) real-time simulator. We show how DEVSbased prototypes can be embedded in the target hardware, consisting of an Intel IXP2400 Network Processor. We developed interfac...
متن کاملA Simplified Real - Time Embedded Devs Approach towards Embedded and Control Design
The development of embedded systems with real-time constraints has received the thorough study of the software engineering community in the last 20 years. We propose a model-driven real-time simplified P-DEVS (Parallel Discrete EVent Simulation system) method to develop this kind of applications based on formal DEVS, a formal technique originally created for modeling and simulation of discrete ...
